Unpaid Work
As a requirement of your Community Order you may be sentenced to between 40 and 300 hours of unpaid work on behalf of the community.
The work performed has to be physically, mentally or emotionally demanding. You might typically work on any of the following: painting and decorating, environmental work, charity shop work or conservation and grounds maintenance. Every effort is made to ensure that the work placement is suitable for you but there will not be a choice. You will be allocated a placement following an interview with your Offender Manager and the order will not interfere with your employment, education or religious needs.Â
You will attend your first interview with probation within five days of being sentenced and will start work within ten days. You will work for a minimum of six hours each week and finish the Requirement within 12 months.
You may be supervised by someone from the organisation for whom you are working, (the placement provider) or by an officer of the probation service, depending on the seriousness of your offence.
As well as making amends to the community you may also learn new skills which could assist you in finding future employment.
