Overview
Probation work is complex and demanding. The supervision of offenders demands not only continuing assessment and management of risk and dangerousness but also intervention skills to motivate them to change. To be effective, the National Probation Service needs staff with the highest levels of integrity, skills and knowledge who are able to communicate their commitment to protecting the public.
Surrey Probation Area offers a variety of career opportunities for people who enjoy a challenging and rewarding position. Surrey employs approximately 290 staff of whom 30 per cent are probation officers, 38 per cent operational staff and 25 per cent are employed in administration. Staff are based at four operational centres across Surrey - Staines, Woking, Guildford and Redhill. We also have staff in the five local prisons - HMP Bronzefield, HMP Send, HMP Coldingley, HMP Downview and HMP High Down - and at our Approved Premises in Guildford as well as those on secondment with Social Service Youth Offending Team in Woking and Leatherhead. The Senior Management Team, Facilities, IT, Finance and HR teams are based in the Head Office at Godalming.
